Ten minutes from downtown, is ten minutes too far....

Tonight was part of their ten year anniversary tour that to my surprise included SLO Brew. An unlikely venue considering the band during half of their active catalogue couldn't legally drink. Things change. Tonight was really a celebration of, Something to Write Home About, their seminal sophomore album. I still remember the first time i hear it riding in Tyson's mothers (Sharon Peters) Cutlass on a road trip up to SF. What was most vividly memorable about that first listening experience was two fold; 1. I immediately wanted to know the lyrics by heart; 2. The music moved me in its melodic immanence.
I can remember Tyson, Jason, Alex, Kenny and so many others so moved by that album and more importantly that time that completely changed us and music as we knew it. The late nineties were a time of rapid change, I fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective)saw the involvement of Internet first hand change the way us music nerds discovered, music. Gone were the news leaflets and zines that Steve Carey brought to school know with a little bit of effort could research fully the Boston hardcore scene, the Krishna movement of NJ, SF street punk, death metal in Florida, Black Metal in Norway, Hardliners in SLC, and the list goes on and on. We saw that we weren't that different and that the horn rim glasses that we wore to school to be different put us in a much larger group of connection with a community that was much larger than our own perspective.
Tonight was a night or nostalgia, it was a night perfection. Only a few times in my life have i felt one with such a large audience. With my finger shaking to the cadence and my voice raised high to the chorus, I sang loud, I sang proud. Thank you, you fine gentlemen of The Get Up Kids.
P.S. I am still waiting for my Godfather Get Up Kids t-shirt that isn't irregular.....

Kingdom of Kicks

Bird's new bike is going to blow minds like no other.....

I personally can leave the wine and drugs but I will take the chicks and bikes.

By the way, Valentine is almost ready to come home.

If youre gonna scream, scream with me......

If youre gonna scream, scream with me
Moments like this never last
When do creatures rape your face
Hybrids opened up the door

Ooh baby when you cry
Your face is momentary
You hide your looks behind these scars

In hybrid moments
Give me a moment

Give me a moment
Give me a moment

Ooh baby when you cry
Your face is momentary
You hide your looks behind these scars

In hybrid moments
In hybrid moments

In hybrid moments
In hybrid moments

Give me a moment
Give me a moment
